$500,00 Grant Supports Collaborative Project

Image: Institute of Museum and Library Services LogoThe Institute of Museum and Library Services announced their national leadership grants and the Museum is among them with the largest in Massachusetts, an award of $500,000! The Boston Public Library and the Museum have taken the success of our “Black Books: The First African American Authors” exhibit and turned it into a sustainable partnership for the celebration of the bicentennials of William Lloyd Garrison 2005 and the African Meeting House 2006. WGBH is also an important partner in this collaboration, working with us on the exhibits, curriculum and web site development.

This collaboration and the success of this grant proposal places the Museum of African American history in a new realm of opportunity for the scholarship, marketing and resource development of the museum.

Director invited to Lecture in Museum Studies Program

Raising the bar in the Museum Studies Program, the Harvard Extension School has instituted a Masters Degree in Museum Studies, offered for the first time this fall. The Introduction to Museum Studies is in many cases a student's first introduction to the world of museums. Museum of African American History Executive Director Beverly Morgan-Welch has once again been invited to lecture in the all-important introductory course on October 5.
